How The Vizcaya Chapter Started

In late 2018 several neighbors wondered why Vizcaya did not have its own chapter of Pap Corps. After talking to Pap Corps headquarters, we were encouraged to hold a meeting to see if there was enough interest. We decided to hold an introductory meeting on May 9, 2018. The room was decorated with purple Pap Corps balloons and all the officers wore purple Pap Corps shirts and caps. We anticipated about 50 attendees and we were thrilled that over 100 showed up. We had approximately 75 people join that night. As of now, September 2023, we have almost doubled our membership. Our first fundraiser was Bagel Bingo which was held in October of 2018. It was a huge success! Since then we have hosted card parties, speakers, a walk-a-thon, movies and lunch, an art auction, a visit from a Good Humor truck, a tour of Sylvester, and a quarter auction. Our chapter has also supported other chapters by attending their functions. Even though our in-person activities came to a halt during Covid, we managed to continue raising money through tribute cards and birthday buddies. We are back in full swing organizing upcoming events and welcoming new members.

South Florida’s Largest, Volunteer Cancer Fundraising Organization

With 20,000 members strong, The Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research is South Florida’s largest grassroots fundraising organization. Together, we strive towards our collective vision— A World Without Cancer. All funds raised at our events benefit Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. There, physicians and scientists work on groundbreaking research programs to eradicate all forms of cancer.
